Skilling Youth For Enhancing Employability in Healthcare Sector

Above are the few major views shared by Mr. Ashish Jain the Chief Executive Officer of Healthcare Sector Skill
Council (HSSC), which aims to facilitate the creation of a robust and vibrant ecosystem for quality vocational
education and skill development in allied healthcare.
Adding on the same Mr. Jain says for achieving skilling, reskilling and upskilling of healthcare professionals we
work in collaboration with various stakeholders including central ministries, state governments, and healthcare
industry. With the intent for developing skilled healthcare professionals, HSSC has developed Qualification and
National Occupation Standards (QP-NOSs) that are being used today in universities, community colleges,
schools, state skill development missions, and affiliated training institutions. These national standards are being
also used under various government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), DDU-GKY,
NULM, and state programs.
HSSC has trained more than 1 lac trainees through its affiliated training partner in different areas and a complete
ecosystem is created to train quality healthcare professionals as per the need of sector and the country. HSSC
today has a footprint across the country with training centers in all the states.
National Health Authority and National Skill Development Corporation have signed an MOU to train one lac PM
Arogya Mitra under ‘Skill India’ through Healthcare Sector Skill Council. We have now also initiated work in the
AYUSH sector and are working closely with the Ministry of AYUSH. HSSC would be working on training and
certification of AYUSH professionals for deployment at Health & Wellness center under Ayushman Bharat as well.
Thanks to a focused effort by the government, skills training have gained a lot of prominence over the period.
Employers today recognize skill competency certificates and employment is provided based on these skill
certifications not only in our country but aboard as well. The focus on skills is gaining momentum that further gets
a boost from successful participation at international events such as World Skills Competition which is considered
as ‘Olympics’ of Skill. India participated for the first time in ‘Health & Social Care’ category and won the Medallion
of Excellence at World Skill Competition held at Kazan, Russia. HSSC played a critical role in the preparation and
training of Indian candidates for competition. HSSC is continuously working towards imparting best in class
healthcare skills and committed to work in areas aligned to national priorities like Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY).
